What steps should I take to become an interior designer?

I would like to open my own interior design business one day. Although I'm more interested in the decoration of the architecture is that it is all in one package. Finally I would like to develop a business that not only deals with home decor, but decorating for weddings and other special occasions. I am currently a part-time student in the Chicago area, my first year of study interior design. Does anyone have any tips on where I can oradvice start?

If you are more interested in decoration plannig and the party, etc then do not waste your money on interior design school, and who will not use. Some schools offer associate degrees in the decoration. Search the Internet. Also, look for a part-time employment in a furniture store. Have jobs which can be a "design consultant" to shop for clients for furniture, but need help picking out the various pieces and decide what goes where. Or try to get a job at a company event planning doing everything I need to do. It will not be glamorous at first. Just do what it takes to gain experience! Good luck!
